Project Destiny

What is your Destiny?

Welcome to the Project Destiny!

RPG Rating 1 1 2

What started out as a background story for a character, over the years grew into a mission of its own, and even lead to a simulation of its own. Project Destiny started out as a spin off from Langley Station.

The Project Destiny is the clandestine section of Destiny Inc. They do various assignments around the galaxy. From gathering intel to providing security. They are basically a legal version of guns for hire.

They have a number of teams and a support team at Homebase, Earth. Homebase provides technical support as well as assistance with research and communication. With thanks to the technical support team they possess the latest in technology as well as a Arrow class runabout, outfitted for the needs of the teams.

The Simm itself runs on an open world system where multiple missions run at one time. The current structure is that each team and Home Base all have their own independent stories, which cross over from time to time.

Hello team!

It’s that wonderful time again when I go on for a few paragraphs about what’s going on in the life of Project Destiny. I know it’s not been a full month since the last one but I have a few bits I would like to announce. So replicate yourself a hot beverage and let’s get to it:

Activity

Good news everyone! All but one of you has reached the minimum posting requirement for the month (1 post every 30 days). The one remaining person should feel no shame however as they are working hard on a JP with myself.
Thank you all so much for your participation in our story. I am really proud of what we are achieving here together.

This level of activity however has led me to think that perhaps there is no longer need for the grace period I was giving for activity whilst the pandemic was ongoing. Although Covid is still very much at large, I am going to start to once again enforce the posting requirements. If you are unable to keep up with this requirement for any reason then please drop in a LOA (no return date required).

Fleet Discord

As a member of Project Destiny you are also a member of Zodiac Fleet (aka the 16th Fleet). There is a large community of like minded Star Trek obsessed writers on the fleet discord. Being a part of the fleet discord server also allows you to keep up to date with the goings on of the fleet, and to get involved in various fleet activities. If you haven’t already joined then take a poke around at: https://discord.gg/ZgG2VUusBt

If you are already a member but still have guest status on the Fleet discord server, then let me know and I can inform the right people to get it updated.

Missions

As you are aware Project Destiny has a few different missions going on at once, with the intention of some times crossing these over.

Please take a nose around the various missions on offer, and feel free to ask any questions about them. Equally if you have any of your own mission ideas then please bring them to the table by posting them in our discord server, or by chatting to me privately.
If you like the look of a mission but your character doesn’t fit the bill for what ever reason then it’s an excellent opportunity to create a NPC for the job.

There is a new mission that will be Listed shortly named “into that darkness”. This mission will be a long running mission that can be used by everyone at any time with a drop in drop out kind of scenario.
The premise is that the tunnel network that makes up home base is largely unexplored and so teams are being sent into the depths of the base to uncover what mysteries lay down there. You are free to come up with some of your own ideas of what your character might find or you can seek me out and I will give you a few of my own ideas.

But please remember this is not just my game. It’s yours too, I am just a facilitator.

Personal Logs

You might have noticed that the Fleet calls for CO’s to submit voluntary personal logs. I have submitted one for this month which you can read at: http://16thfleet.com/2020/11/12/project-destiny-captains-log-october-2020/

But this has got me to thinking. I would like to invite you all to write your own personal logs for your characters or NPC’s. This will be completely voluntary, but if I could have one volunteer a month to write their characters log and we can submit it as part of the next news letter. This of course would not stop you from writing any additional logs you see fit to write, but any logs that are submitted officially will count toward your posting requirements. (Unofficial ones count too).

Assistant Game Master

The Simm is still in need of an assistant game master. Although David is doing a fantastic job as acting Assistant Game Master, we are still in need of a more permanent solution. If you would like more information, or you know of someone that might fit the bill, then please get in contact.

And that is all for today folks (I can hear the cheers from here). As always if you have any questions or suggestions for anything relating to Project Destiny then please let me know. But in the mean time, thank you for reading and I look forward to our further adventures together.

» October/November 2020 News letter

Posted on Wed Oct 21st, 2020 @ 7:50am by Norul in General News

Hello everyone. Once again I have missed a few months since the last newsletter. But this one should be brief.

What's been happening?

So, I think it only fair to let you know why things have been so slow for me, and what to expect from me now.
We have all been hit hard by Covid, and for some of us including myself that has meant some massive changes to life. I am now retraining as a lawyer. A long old process that starts with 6 years of part time study toward a degree. I think you can all agree that that in itself is time consuming enough, but I also have four children, three of which are awaiting various medical appointments.
The biggest concern in that sense is my youngest who at less than a year old is fitting so as you can understand I have had my work cut out for me there too.
That leads on to what to expect from me now. As of the point of writing this newsletter, I am in a place where I can focus on the Simm a fair amount and things should return to something resembling normal. However I can't promise it will remain like that. There will be weeks where my study will be more full on, and with appointments and tests still pending, I might be called on more to my family commitments too. If this is the case though, Project Destiny should not stall. David, as you know, is currently acting as assistant games master here, and my hope is that you will all have some posts with each other as well. So, if there is any reason I go missing again you have a point of contact, and hopefully you wont be relying on me for too many of your tags. In any rate, I will attempt to notify you all next time I go absent.

Assistant game master

I am still on the look out for an assistant game master, as David is only in the role as a temporary measure. The role does not need to be in character, but an interested person should be prepared to help drive story, and attend to some behind the scenes work within the Simm. For more information or if you or someone you know might be interested, please contact me.

Mission in the spotlight

With things having been slower recently I have decided to postpone the Mission in the spotlight until things have moved on a little.

Missions

I would like to encourage you to be thinking about your own mission ideas. Nothing is set in stone here and for story telling purposes roles can be fluid. If you have any mission ideas that you would be willing to take the lead on, then let me or David (or whoever happens to be Assistant Game master) know, and provide us with some details and the chances are we will let you run with it, whilst helping to work out some of the finer details.

Thank you all for your patients in this time. I hope to tell some fantastic stories with you.

» June update

Posted on Tue Jun 30th, 2020 @ 3:54pm by Norul in General News

It’s been a while since the last time I have an update on the Simm’s progress. With the real world looming somewhat different at the moment Project Destiny has taken a back seat for many of us, myself included. But I want you all to rest assured that I am still very much committed to this Simm, and it’s success, and in the last couple of weeks I am happy to say that some tags have begun to flow again, although our posting numbers are still down.

LOA’s

I have expressed before that during this time I don’t expect the same level of activity from you all, however I would appreciate an LOA if you believe you won’t be able to keep up with the usual posting requirements, this is to aid me in accessing the current state of the simm, and on how I could aid those of you able to participate in your endeavour to do just that. I am however happy to have LOA’s submitted without deadlines.

Mission in the spotlight

I have been struggling with how to write recruitment adverts for the simm owing to the unique nature of how missions are run here. I don’t want to overrun people with 5 different stories that they could be a part of, but equally I don’t want to miss out on areas where we could do with some extra players. As a result I have come up with an idea of having a mission in the spotlight.

This will be a monthly voting event, in which everyone will be invited to vote, via discord, on the current mission they most enjoy reading/writing. Voting will not be exclusive to our members, but to anyone that has access to our discord server. I am aware that there may be some people that are not members but enjoy reading our material, and it would be good to get their take on things.

After the vote an award will be given to all members that were involved in the writing of the mission, and the months recruitment ad will feature the mission voted everyones favourite.

Mission ideas

I would like to invite all of our writers to be as creative as possible, not only in their writing of each individual post, but also in the creation of missions. The goal is to become a safe space for everyone to tell their stories, set within the Star Trek universe. If anyone has any mission ideas that they think would fit in Project Destiny then please give me or David a shout and we can work something out.

XO required

David’s writer is currently standing in as a temporary XO (or what I woild like to call Assistant Director), and the position is still open for someone more permanent. If you are interested in the role or want to know more about what is involved then please send me a message, and we can discuss it.

I think that just about covers everything for this month. If anyone has any questions then please don’t hesitate to ask.

Hi all.

You may have noticed at the bottom of the post writing screen there is a box labelled “tags”. This up until now has been unused but after a recent vote we have decided to trial it’s use.

Put simply the system allows for the site to be easily searched for posts using keywords. For example if you were to write “Alpha” in the box, when using the sites search tool you could then write alpha and the post would pop up amping at overs tagged the same way.

So, I wanted to start off by using the box to tag based on the team the post is meant for. If the post is for home base you would simply write “home base” in the box, for team alpha You would write “alpha” and so on and so forth.

It would also be helpful to use the box to tag based on sub-plots that don’t fit into an active mission. For example if there was a blossoming relationship between characters would might want to create a tag for this, so that you can easily keep track of said relationship. This would apply for any other situation you could think of.

As it stands the use of the box is not compulsory, but I would appreciate you all at least try it.

Many thanks
